A cockroach’s ability to fly is also determined by its life stage, and sometimes gender. Immature cockroaches for example, can’t fly because they’re wingless. And females of certain species can’t fly – even though they have wings – because their highly effective legs do enough.

    Why do some cockroaches fly?

Pereira, Ph.D., a research scientist with the University of Florida, says that  there are “quite a few” species, like the American cockroach, that have fully-developed wings and can fly, they just normally choose not to.However, in summertime, especially in warmer areas they can fly.

Ron Harrison, Ph.D,Orkin entomologist, says  that Cockroaches are cold-blooded but, when it’s hot out, the muscles that control their wings loosen up, making it easier for them to fly.So, Flying cockroach fly because of bugs’ muscles warming up
